M2-Z45-T Trinocular Stereo Zoom Pod

Part number 91-001-TR

The same Z45 stereo zoom optics as the binocular body, with a third vertical port for a camera. Feed a 4K monitor, capture images, or let a second person watch without giving up the eyepieces.

A stereo zoom microscope you can put on a screen

The M2-Z45-T is the trinocular body in our stereo zoom microscope range. Optically it is the same instrument as the 91-001 binocular pod — 6.7× to 45× continuous zoom, 76mm mount, 30mm eyepieces. The difference is a third vertical port above the optics that takes a camera.

That port is what turns a microscope into an inspection station. You can capture a defect instead of describing it, put the image on a 4K monitor so two people can discuss it, or attach photographs to a QC record.

What you need to use the camera port

Two things. A C-mount video coupler (96-001) adapts the port to a camera thread, and then the camera itself. Our 8MPB 4K microscope camera (96-005) uses a Sony IMX585 sensor at 3840 × 2160 up to 60 fps, with HDMI, USB 3.0, and network output.

The HDMI output matters more than it sounds. Plug the camera straight into a 4K monitor, add the supplied USB mouse, and the camera runs its own capture and measurement software. No PC on the bench at all.

Recommended pairing

For stereo zoom work we recommend the 0.5X coupler configuration. The 8MPB has a large 1/1.2″ sensor, and pairing it with a 0.5X coupler keeps a wide field of view rather than cropping into the centre of the image.

Binocular or trinocular?

The honest answer: if there is any chance you will want to capture images, buy the trinocular now. The difference is $135. Replacing a binocular body later costs $780 and leaves you with a pod you do not need.

Stay binocular only if you are certain the work is purely hands-on — a rework bench where nothing is ever documented, for instance.

Complete the system — including imaging

The trinocular pod needs the same focus arm, stand, and eyepieces as the binocular body. To use the camera port you also need a C-mount coupler, and then a camera.

Frequently asked questions

What is a trinocular stereo zoom microscope?

A trinocular stereo microscope has three optical ports: two eyepieces for viewing and a third vertical port for a camera. You keep the full stereo view through the eyepieces while a camera captures the image or feeds a monitor.

What camera works with the M2-Z45-T?

Any C-mount camera will fit once a 96-001 C-mount video coupler is installed. We supply the 8MPB 4K microscope camera (96-005), which uses a Sony IMX585 sensor at 3840 x 2160 up to 60 fps with HDMI, USB 3.0, and network output.

Do I need a computer to use a microscope camera?

Not with the 8MPB. Connect it directly to a 4K monitor over HDMI, plug in the supplied USB mouse, and the camera’s built-in software handles viewing, capture, recording, and measurement. USB 3.0 to a Windows, Mac, or Linux machine is also supported if you prefer.

Is the camera included in the $780 price?

No. The $780 covers the trinocular body only. The C-mount coupler (96-001, $150) and camera (96-005, $995) are ordered separately, as are eyepieces, focus arm, stand, and lighting.

Can I use the trinocular pod without a camera?

Yes. It works exactly like the binocular body through the eyepieces. The third port simply sits unused until you add a camera, which many customers do a year or two later.

What magnification does it give with a camera attached?

On-screen magnification depends on the coupler, the camera sensor, and the monitor size, so it is not the same as the 6.7x-45x figure you see through the eyepieces. For stereo zoom work we recommend a 0.5X coupler to keep a wide field of view on the large 1/1.2" sensor.
